Psychological support - Psychosocial support in criminal proceedings

For persons affected by particularly serious criminal offences, criminal proceedings are a huge additional burden. Psychosocial support services provide assistance at the various stages of the criminal proceedings. They do not provide legal advice, but rather provide support during the investigative proceedings and later during and after the trial. For instance, they accompany their clients to police interviews or examinations by the public prosecutor's office. They will also be able to show them the court building and courtroom. In certain cases, especially where underage victims of serious sexual and violent offences are concerned – but also if particularly vulnerable adults are the victims of serious sexual or violent offences – psychosocial support is assigned free of charge upon request. In most cases, victim support organisations can provide information on psychosocial support in court proceedings.

Persons affected by serious criminal offences are entitled to psychosocial support in court proceedings. Specifically trained staff provide support to those affected before, during and after the trial. Susanne Hampe is one of them.
